At the higher elevations pockets of soft slab up to 18 inches in depth exist and could be triggered on very steep slopes by the weight of a single person. Yesterday a skier or snowboarder triggered a 14 inch deep soft slab on Pucker Face south of the boundary of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Similar events are possible today especially as temperatures warm. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid elevations except in isolated pockets and are unlikely at the lower elevations.

This flow will continue to bring periods of snowfall to the region through the night and into Sunday. This flow direction will favor the Wyoming, Salt River, Teton and Gros Ventre Ranges. New snow accumulations of five to ten inches are possible overnight with additional accumulations expected on Sunday. Winds are forecast to be light and variable overnight. On Sunday they will veer towards the west and increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour with higher gusts. Temperatures will be in the teens and 20s.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at elevations of 8,000 to 10,500 feet. Humans who venture onto very steep slopes could trigger surface slabs up to two feet in depth. Below 8,000 feet the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. If overnight winds are significantly stronger than forecasted the avalanche hazard at the higher elevations in the Greys River/Southwest Trails and the Teton areas could increase to CONSIDERABLE.
