The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Weak, faceted snow persists at the base of the snowpack. Yesterday, a group of skiers remotely triggered a five foot, full depth, hard slab avalanche on this basal weak layer. Similar slides are possible today in steep avalanche-prone terrain and could be triggered even after a slope has been crossed multiple times. Also yesterday, a ski mountaineer was killed after being swept over a cliff by a surface slab on the South Teton.
