In steep, wind-loaded terrain at the high and mid elevations skiers and riders may trigger recently formed soft slabs to depths of two feet. Yesterday skiers easily triggered several soft slabs on northerly aspects in Avalanche and Granite canyons. Similar events should be expected today from active cross loading near ridges and in chutes. Avalanches are unlikely at low elevations.

Tuesday there will be a break in the series of snow events. Light snow flurries are possible in the afternoon ahead of the next pulse of moisture. Skies will be partly cloudy with temperatures rising into the upper 20s. Ridgetop winds will be southwesterly at 15 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard will be Moderate through the region. The new snow is resting on sun crusts on all but very northerly exposures. Backcountry users have been reporting easily triggered soft slabs to 20 inches deep in steep areas like chutes at mid and upper elevations. The slides are running on density breaks or the sun crusts. similar events are expected Tuesday and any periods of sunshine will increase the sensitivity of slabs and raise the chance of loose slides on steep areas near cliff bands or under cornices.
