Avalanche Summary

Update on Wednesday morning- Drifts of over 30 inches are being reported on the Grand Mesa. Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist on wind-drifted slopes. You can very easily trigger large and dangerous avalanches.

New snow will also overload deeply buried weak layers, making it easy to trigger an avalanche on layers several feet below the snow surface. You can easily trigger an avalanche on northwest, north, and northeast-facing slopes. Wind-drifted slopes will be the most dangerous as new slabs will stress these troublesome layers to their breaking point. Avoid traveling on or under steep slopes facing these aspects of concern to reduce your chances of being caught in an avalanche.
