Avalanche Activity

Individual avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.

Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the snowpack on shady slopes. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in high Alpine regions. Avalanches can be released in the old snowpack, in particular by large additional loads. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard crust.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. In particular shady slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow.
