Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution.

The fresh and older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above approximately 2200 m. At high altitude the avalanche prone locations are present in all aspects and the danger is slightly greater. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Avalanches can reach medium size. More frequent small to medium-sized loose snow avalanches are to be expected, in the event of prolonged bright spells especially. In addition very occasional medium-sized and large gliding avalanches are possible. This applies on steep grassy slopes below approximately 2600 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell on Sunday. 20 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Monday. The wind will be moderate. The more recent wind slabs are lying on soft layers at elevated altitudes.

Tendency

Wind slabs represent the main danger.
