The avalanche danger is Low today. Wind slabs which formed on Monday may remain sensitive to human triggering in steep, middle and upper elevation terrain. These areas of stiffer snow will be shallow and exist only in isolated areas but could cause a problem, especially where they exist over firm crusts or old, wind hammered surfaces. Softer snow in sheltered areas not affected by the predominantly southwest wind that built these wind slabs will provide better skiing and riding. Pay attention to signs of recent wind loading and only expose one person at a time. In all other terrain avalanches are unlikely today.

We could pick up another one to three inches overnight in the mountains with a dusting possible in the valleys. Temperatures will grow colder overnight with lows around ten below zero and not rebounding much tomorrow at all. Light to moderate wind will shift west overnight and shift further to the northwest tomorrow. Be prepared to find some wind slabs above 8500’ tomorrow, particularly if higher snowfall totals materialize. Wind slabs will most likely be small and isolated enough (less than a foot thick) to continue to warrant a low danger rating tomorrow but they could still be enough to sweep you off your feet in steep and exposed terrain.
