In sintesi

Shallow avalanches will be possible in the alpine and less likely at mid elevations. With some new snow and increased west winds, we could see shallow wind slabs form on lee aspects. If venturing near and above treeline, look for signs of slabs forming below ridgelines. If wind slabs are encountered, consider traveling on terrain lower than 30 degrees.

On Saturday we could see up to 1" of snow fall during the day and increased winds primarily from the west.  With a little refresh of snow plus the current snow available for transport, we could see small wind slabs form on lee aspects as the day continues. Look for signs of drifting snow at ridgelines and rounded, smooth, and/or pillow like snow features. Also look for signs of cracking, and consider stomping on small/safe test slopes. If signs of slabs are encountered, consider adjusting your terrain to slopes less than 30 degrees.

Avalanche Discussion

Today I toured on Broken Top and found variable snow surfaces. I did observe one very small skier triggered avalanche in the alpine on east facing terrain. Other than that, I did not find any other avalanche activity.
