Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 15 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen in all altitude zones. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In the northwest moderate northwesterly wind. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions the wind slabs will increase in size additionally on Saturday.

Avalanche Activity

Dry loose snow avalanches and dry slab avalanches are to be expected.

The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 1800 m. In particular on very steep shady slopes the avalanches can penetrate even deep layers and reach large size in isolated cases. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and natural avalanches indicate the danger.
