A bit of a repeat, with conditions given the current weather. Warm day time temperatures and the cool night time temperatures have the mountain in a reasonable melt freeze process especially on lower elevations. This means care is required with the changing conditions at different times of day, plus the aspect and elevation variations. Remember that small avalanches can have high consequences depending on the terrain.

Recent Avalanche Activity

No human-triggered or naturally triggered avalanches have been reported or observed over the past 24 hours.

Current Snowpack Conditions

A moist snowpack is gaining strength due to cold night temperatures providing the freeze. Northerly facing surfaces will lose some cohesion during daylight hours but mainly on slopes below 1800m. Melt-freeze conditions exist across the mountain.

Mountain Weather

Freezing level is still hovering around the summit for Saturday. This will include some showers developing during the day with winds out of the South East. Looks like the freezing level will start to lower come Sunday.

Sliding Danger

Firm in the early hours of the morning after an overnight freeze

Forecast Confidence

Moderate

  • We are uncertain due to a limited number of field observations.
