Avalanche Activity

The northwesterly wind will transport the snow. The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence.

Little snow fell in the last few days. As a consequence of a moderate to strong northwesterly wind, mostly small wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines. They are to be found in particular in steep terrain at elevated altitudes. These are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling. In particular transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are especially unfavourable. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase but remain within the current danger level.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 15 cm of snow has fallen since Friday above approximately 2500 m. Less snow than usual is lying. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. The rain gave rise on Friday to thorough wetting of the old snowpack over a wide area below approximately 2500 m. New snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust, especially below approximately 2600 m. The old snowpack is unfavourably layered. At high altitude snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
