Pockets of dense slab up to 30 inches deep persist in some very steep avalanche starting zones above an elevation of 8,500 feet. These slabs could be human triggered. The potential for a person to trigger one of these slabs will increase as the day warms and is more likely with larger loads such as snowmachines and groups of people. Wet slides may be possible if significant rain occurs at the lower elevations.

A fast moving storm system will bring periods of snow to the mountains overnight. Accumulations of two to six inches are possible by morning. This system will favor the higher elevations from the Teton Range southward. On Thursday periods of light snowfall are likely with several inches of additional accumulation possible. Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight and rise into the 20s during the day. Winds will be southwest at about 20 miles per hours and veer towards the west with gusts to 30 miles per hour in the morning. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). New pockets of shallow soft slab will begin to build on leeward aspects. These new slabs will form on hard old snow surfaces and are likely to be sensitive to ski cuts. Older hard slabs up to 30 inches deep persist and may retain some potential to be triggered by humans on snowmachines in some very steep upper elevation avalanche starting zones. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW below an elevation of 9,000 feet.
