Significant triggers, like a house-sized cornice fall, could trigger an avalanche that breaks on buried crusts two to four feet deep. Avoid traveling on steep slopes directly below overhanging cornices. Northerly-facing slopes that lack buried crusts offer safer options.
Move off steep slopes once you sink past your ankles into wet snow. Loose avalanches will be easy to trigger on very steep slopes once the snow is that wet. Saturated layers may produce large wet slab avalanches. The soggy snow will follow the sun from east to south to west, and up in elevation with the warming temperature.
