The overall avalanche danger rating is LOW today on the Manti Skyline.
You can travel around in most terrain without too much worry about getting caught in an avalanche. Keep in mind that LOW danger doesn't mean NO danger. Here are things to lookout for today:
- Lingering wind slabs: It seems pretty unlikely to trigger one of these today but if you were to trigger one it would be in the higher terrain on VERY steep slopes that face north through east.
- Wet avalanche activity: This also seems like it will be a minor issue today. We had another solid freeze overnight which will have locked up Friday's wet snow. I don't think it's going to get warm enough today to make the snowpack become unstable. If you find yourself in punchy, wet sloppy snow, it's time to avoid being on or below steep slopes.
IT IS GOING TO GET VERY WARM OVER THE NEXT 4 DAYS WHICH COULD MAKE THE SNOWPACK BECOME UNSTABLE.
Snow and Weather
Current Conditions: The warming trend continues with warmer temperatures on Friday compared to Thursday. Things did freeze again overnight with low temperatures around 30˚F. The wind has been from the west southwest and has been generally light with moderate speed gusts along the upper ridges.
Mountain Weather: Temperatures are going to get into the mid 40s today and wind should stay light to moderate in speed from the southwest. Temperatures continue to warm through mid week and we could see them reach the mid 50s at 10,000' by Tuesday.
