The avalanche hazard will rise to moderate as the day warms. Small wet loose avalanches are expected to become possible by this afternoon. Monitor surfaces as they soften, and reduce your exposure to steep slopes as the snow transitions to wet and unsupportable.

    Yesterday's warm temperatures made wet loose avalanches increasingly likely through the day, and small natural avalanches began to occur in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be warmer today, and any surface crust may soften quickly. As this crust softens and begins to transition from dry to wet, expect the likelihood of wet loose avalanche activity to rise. Recent avalanches and roller balls will be direct signs of instability. Keep your eyes on the terrain above you and reduce your exposure to steep, rocky slopes in the sun. Move to shadier or gentler terrain as the surface transitions to unsupportable and wet.

Avalanche Discussion

Our most recent storm brought a solid refresh to middle and upper elevations. This storm improved surface conditions and gave us a bit of ammunition for wet loose avalanche activity. All of the recorded activity has originated in steep, rocky terrain and has been small in size. Be cautious in extreme terrain where a small avalanche could have elevated consequences, especially later this afternoon. 

Yesterday, many folks reported incredible skiing and riding quality in high-elevation north-facing terrain. While temperatures did warm up significantly, it's still possible that some high, north-facing terrain may have been spared. Start early, end early, monitor for warming throughout your day, and use aspect, elevation, and timing as tools to find the goods.

Consider bringing extra tools to help in your adventures today: crampons or an ice axe to help manage slick surfaces, bicycles and trail runners for long or patchy approaches, and maybe an extra pair of socks for those wet feet after that sketchy creek crossing. Today is a great day to enjoy everything this wonderful range has to offer.
