In sintesi

Temperatures are starting off 5 to 10 degrees colder than yesterday morning. Cooler temperatures and clear skies overnight allowed for a hard freeze of snow surfaces, and the snowpack is mostly stable this morning. Aside from some sluffing of the new snow at the higher elevations, the threat of wet loose slides will not return until supportable crusts break down. Monitor temperatures and the impact of the sun, and transition to colder terrain when crusts begin to break down.

    As the day progresses, warming temperatures and abundant sunshine could bring back the chance for shallow wet loose slides involving the old snow when and if surface crusts break down. Softening of frozen crusts will beginning in the valleys before climbing in elevation as the day warms. This process will be most pronounced when the snowpack is under direct sunlit beginning on easterly aspects in the morning and west facing slopes in the afternoon.

Avalanche Discussion

Flow is turning back to the southwest. Winds have started to increases this evening and should have 15-20 mph averages through Monday. The chance for precipitation is on the increase and periods of snowfall(mixed with rain at the lower elevations) is to continue through Monday and into Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts of one to two inches are expected through each twelve hour period at the upper elevations. High temperatures are to be in the low thirties at 9000 feet and into the forties in the valleys.The general avalanche hazard will be Low on Monday at all elevations. Low does not mean no hazards exists and very shallow dry wind slabs exist in high terrain and a chance for wet loose slides could develop in very warm areas of steep terrain as the snow surfaces softens.
