Forecast Snow Stability: The remaining snowpack will be well bonded and stable. At lower elevations the wet snow will continue to thaw, with the process slowing on the highest summits. Shallow and insignificant accumulations of windslab will start to form in wind sheltered locations on North-West to North-East aspects above 1100 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Heavy overnight rain at all levels, easing during the day. Daytime precipitation will fall as sleet or wet snow above 1050 metres from mid-morning. Storm force South-Easterly winds will ease overnight to become strong Southerly during the day. Observed Weather Influences: A mild, wet and very windy day with storm force South-Easterly winds. The freezing level lowered during the afternoon to settle around the highest summits. ObservedSnowStability: The surface layers of the snowpack have become soft and wet but stability is generally good on all aspects. Localised minor surface instability present on the steepest of terrain on West through North to East aspects above 1000 metres. Small cornices above these slopes are prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Low.
