Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger wind slabs that were formed during the past weekend's storm. Above 8000 feet watch for terrain features where recent loading has occurred. Pockets of instability are most likely to be found in steep avalanche starting zones near ridge crests , in unsupported slopes just above cliffs, and in steep couloirs. At lower elevations, avalanches are less likely but still possible. Watch for isolated terrain features that were loaded by recent winds and are very steep. Remember that even small avalanches can seriously injure people or bury them in terrain traps.

    Soft slabs could be triggered by backcountry travelers in steep, wind loaded areas. These slabs are more likely to be found at higher elevations where they could have depths to three feet. Isolated pockets of slab could be triggered at lower elevations where they could have depths to eighteen inches. This hazard could increase in the afternoon in areas that receive significant sunlight and undergo rapid warming.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Tuesday looks to be mostly dry, although a chance for a few lingering light snow showers exists in the Tetons. Otherwise conditions will be mostly clear and cold with mountain temperatures starting below zero and reaching highs in the teens. Winds are to be westerly with 10-25 mph averages. The general avalanche hazard is to be Moderate above 8000 feet and low below that elevation. In steep avalanche terrain that was loaded by the recent storm, skiers and riders could trigger soft slabs to depths of three feet. Below that elevation, isolated pockets of wind slabs with depths to a foot could be triggered in very steep avalanche paths prone to wind loading.
