    Strong to gale winds from the southwest, and cool temperatures have brought new snow overnight. Strong winds will have moved snow around but expecting only very isolated areas of wind slab on sheltered slopes due to the strength of the winds. Even with this new snow we have left the hazard as losse wet due to expected daytime temperatures whcih will affect this new snow and old snow surface layers. Tricking times for backcountry travel due to the variable conditions with weather and snow. Expect conditions to remain firm in the mornings and evenings due to the cool nights. Even with the southwest flow, we expect the freezing level to sit high on the mountain for Sunday. So yes, repeating that variable conditions will meet you, the mountain user, depending on elevation and timeframe. For these reasons, the forecast stays at Moderate due to uncertainty of how the weather is going to interact with the current snowpack.

Current Snowpack Conditions

5cms plus of new snow above 1500m over Saturday night. Strong winds would have transported some snow to leeward aspects. Below this new snow, an isothermic snowpack still exists across the mountain on all aspects and elevations. We are still in a melt-freeze cycle even with this new snow, as daytime temperatures are still becoming warm enough to break down surface layer bonds.

Mountain Weather

Snow showers above 1400m with strong to gale South West winds. The freezing level is expected to rise again on Sunday to around the summit mid-afternoon.

Sliding Danger

The melt-freeze phase will have conditions being firm in the morning and evening, with a good freeze of a wet snowpack. Falls will result in a slide that if not arrested, leading into poor consequences/outcomes.
