Quick report

We traveled into the northern Whitefish Range near Therriault pass. Our field observations indicated recent wind loading and cornice development on north and northwest aspects at approximately 7000 feet. A snow pit revealed 10 cm of recent snow overlying an approximately 50 cm, one-finger-hard slab. Our stability testing produced an ECTN23, failing on the knife hard AR layer that formed from the recent rain event. Overall, the snowpack was more slab-like than anticipated. Skiing conditions were excellent in treed terrain, where the snow was less affected by wind.
