We triggered a collapse in several inches of freshly drifted snow, that ultimately collapsed in depth hoar buried near the ground. The upshot for the weekend is that as small avalanches begin to run in wind-drifted areas like this, there's a really good chance they will break deeply, growing into large avalanches. In other words, our Persistent Slab avalanche problem will grow quickly in the storm.

The facets below dense wind drifts on east-facing slopes remain weak and soft. The northerly slopes below treeline that we encountered don't have a slab yet, but the recent storm snow will add to the accumulated volume of snow above the fragile interface buried several inches deep.
