Quick report
Toured around Saturday & Sunday between Tincan and Magnum. Snow conditions improved throughout the weekend overall with many groups getting after it. Stuck to mellow terrain Sat and ventured into 35-40 degrees on Sunday after much probing and digging. Weather was excellent overall with some brief wind Sat night/Sun morning. North aspects on Magnum had natural sluff-alanches but otherwise the riding was impeccable. Several noticeable layers in the storm slab from the last storm cycle as shown in the compression tests (One a west face of Sunburst @~3600' *pictured & one on a SW face of Magnum @~3400'). Top 15-20 cm was blower pow that cooled off and dried out Saturday night in the cool calm weather. Mostly right side up pack down through the storm slab despite the layers observed. Some deeper concern with the buried hoar but struggled to get this weak spot to propagate without prying some with a shovel. Several glide cracks (recent & old with some nearly covered and easy to run into) on all aspects is a continued hazard to be mindful of and limiting line choices on Sunburst especially. With the great weather window, the mountains were exceptionally crowded all weekend despite the concerning layers under the storm slabs. By mid day with several large crews skiing recklessly through rock bands on the exits without care for others, proper mountain etiquette, and were kicking off sluff with multiple riders on the mountain while I sat at the top of what was going to me my line watching it get trashed (@WNW exit off magnum). Encouraging & asking for caution and respectful etiquette in the mountains.
Avalanche
Sluffalanches on rollovers going into ~40 degrees approx 6-10" deep traveling a short distance coming off the ski/board track. Lots of glide cracks throughout Turnagain on all aspects.
