Old Ski Bowl

Snow coverage is continuous from Bunny Flat to the Old Ski Bowl on Everitt Memorial Highway, making for efficient travel via skis or sleds. Snow depths range from 6 inches at Bunny Flat to ~14 inches in the Old Ski Bowl at 7900 feet. Plenty of shallowly buried obstacles remain once one ventures off of Everitt Memorial Highway. 

Snow depths from Bunny Flat to the Old Ski Bowl increase with elevation and on shadier or wind-drifted terrain features. Morning surface crust thickness varied by aspect, from nonexistent on the shadiest features to ~1 inch on solar aspects. Snow surfaces were supportable to skis, but became moist and sticky on solar aspects by early afternoon. The snowpack on a south aspect at 7900 feet in the Old Ski Bowl is a shallow (about 12 inch deep) mix of softer snow and harder crusts, with a thin ice lens below the most recent snow (see annotated photo). 

Above treeline in the Old Ski Bowl, many mid to upper elevation starting zones hold enough continuous coverage to act as a bed surface for avalanches with future loading events.
