Bardini Canyon

Went for a walk in the southern portion of the zone today and found a variety of different surfaces, lots of facets, and the 1/1 crust across all the terrain we traveled on. On west-to-north-to-east aspects, facets above and below the 1/1 crust comprised the entire snowpack. While ski conditions are "unique", soft pockets of old snow exist in spots protected from the wind and sun. 

• The snowpack in the Bardini Canyon area is shallow and faceted. It is also wind-wacked in exposed locations and full of good character building ski conditions.
• A variety of surfaces exist. Exposed ice from 1/1, supportable wind board, breakable wind board, soft and enjoyable faceted old snow.
• On a north aspect at 9500', the average height of snow was 80cm. 1/1 crust was found down ~40cm. Faceted snow sat above and below this crust. This structure lacked a solid slab.
• Faceting snow was rampant in the shallow snowpack. We found near-surface facets on W-N-E facing terrain from 8,000-10,500'. Everything was faceting to some extent on the northern half of the compass.
• On low-angle, low-elevation northerly aspects, a very thin melt-freeze crust exists at the surface.
• We stuck to colder slopes today and avoided wet, sunny aspects. Solar aspects below treeline are melting to bare ground.
