Quick report
We estimated approx 12" of new snow in the zone. Knee deep snow pen when breaking trail. Temps were a little warmer than expected below 5500' and cooled around 1100-1400 with cloud breakup and an increased wind. The snow began again around 1430. Snow was heavy, and slowed downhill movement. We ski'd all day in the zone, with no red flags other than new snow, and a small predictable storm slab on convex rolls. We were skinning up on our 4th lap, when the large natural slide occurred.
Avalanche
Witnessed a D4 avalanche in third bowl of cutthroat crk. The slide occurred at approx 1430 after a period of sun and increased mid slope & ridge winds. This slide ran ~1500' naturally from the upper ramp that hangs above the frequently ski'd zone. We weren't able to visually investigate the crown and exact origin, due to an immediate pulse of snowy weather after the slide.
