Toured from the beacon park across the road above Evaro bowl to Burgundy Ridge then back to the top of Little Alaska and out Tele Meadows back inbounds. Most aspects observed around 7500'. I was expecting to find a multitude of stout crusts today but was surprised to find a lot of soft, faceted snow on most aspects except due south. In protected shady areas almost the top foot of the snowpack was large surface hoar crystals and near surface facets. It seems like our cold clear nights have done a lot of work to facet out the top of the snowpack. Even some prior wind slabs from last week were softening. On south aspects I found one to two inches of melt freeze crust with facets below. It was calm and sunny and while the surface was frozen, it was very warm in the sun, I wouldn't be surprised if this crust is melting some by late afternoon. Calm winds below ridge top , sunny, with an inversion cloud layer that topped out at approx 6400'. No wind transport noted. I did not see any cracking, collapsing, or recent avalanches.
