Weather

Beautiful sunny day with very light winds and not a cloud in the sky.

Snowpack

The snow on the ground is very thin throughout this part of the zone, ranging from 3 to 4 inches in most places, with plenty of bare ground. I found a mix of unconsolidated small facets and PP, but generally no other layers, except on north-facing slopes at the ridgeline. I was hunting for wind-transported snow and older weak snow, and only found it in very isolated spots. I dug on a small drift below a north-facing ridge and found 55cm of total snowpack, with around 18cm of larger-grain facets starting to cup at the bottom of the snowpack. I did get a good shooting crack on this drift as I approached. The drift only extended a few feet below the ridge, and the weak basal snow was discontinuous across the landscape.
