-12C air temp, clear sky, northeast wind flagging ridgetop still, good visibility Traveled up Small Creek. Our objectives included testing the wind slab and locating persistent weak layers. We found wind slab over facets - variable in depth from 1-30cm with 4F to pencil hardness, and some shooting cracks. At 2000' we dug two pits on north and south aspects. Beyond standard tests, we forced/pried on the mid-pack slab and got Q3 failure down 65cm in old facets. DT27,Q3 in basal facets. These results confirmed uncertainty in the snowpack structure. Skiing was challenging due to variable surfaces affected by the wind.
