Quick report
Given the heavy new snow and underlying instability problems, we toured to the E aspect of Mammoth Knolls to keep the slope angle low and avoid the swirling winds. The S and SE aspect were quite dense by ~12pm from solar input. Skinned up the east gully and transitioned in sheltered trees to avoid potential wind slabs. Short shots with just 250', was fun to get out and enjoy some decent soft winter snow. We were curious about the underlying PWL. We found about 110cm of new snow on top of a rain crust, then ~10cm of sugary facets as the PWL. Conducted an ECTN18. In this particular zone, the facet layer is ~120cm below a hard rain crust.
