Targets for the day -
- Wind slabs? Some possible above 10,500' or in wind-exposed terrain. None noted in travelled terrain today.
- Sluffing? Very minor, even on 40°+ slopes.
- To look at the status of the radiation recrystallization facets on the southerly facing aspects. At least one of these was triggered on Monday roughly 1' deep and 80' wide as a bc skier was skinning up the north side of the road just above LCC near Alta (see wasatch avy obs video below). These surface facets formed on Sunday with direct sun on the solar aspects. See below -
No Bull's Eye info today: avalanches, cracking or collapsing noted at this interface today.
Pulled out the shovel -
- South facing 9800' - no facet/crust interface noted
- South facing 9300' - 4mm crust noted 40cm down; ECTN25 - failing below the crust
- East facing 9150' - 1-2mm crust noted 60cm down ECTP27, ECTN28 both alternatively failing above and below the crust. This location more wind drifted than other locations.
Feel this layer will continue to stabilize and become a non-issue.
