Snowpack

We went to Carson Pass today to look at storm snow amounts and snow conditions.  This area received around 3'' of recent storm snow.  Previous gale force NE winds have scoured all wind exposed areas back down to firm snow surfaces.  Strong NE winds today were still moving light to moderate amounts of snow on exposed ridges and peaks.  We found wind slabs along our route on W-NW-N aspects up to 1' deep.  We had an ECTP-6 on a 1F hardness wind slab failing on F hard storm snow.  Some of these wind slabs existed on firm crusts and were also found in near treeline areas where wind slabs existed on top of previous near surface facets.  Informal observations did not show other signs of instabilities.
