Quick report

Our AIARE 1 group observed a generally right-side-up, early season snowpack today. We were heartened by the falling snow that made skinning up the Tux Trail quite bearable. Warm storm snow (2-4”) appeared to be adhering to the old, refrozen base. We were amazed to see snow falling straight down, as well as mild temps, at our high point in lower Hillman’s Highway at 3pm. In January, we’re more used to brutal wind and cold. The debris from last weeks avalanche in Hillman’s made it less far down the avalanche path than we would have guessed (pic). Skiing out the Sherb was actually quite fun for the first mile. All backcountry skis are rock skis!
