Weather

Clear skies and moderate winds at ridgetop. Wind loading was minimal.

Snowpack

The snowpack is generally 130 cm deep. Besides the ~10 cm of newer snow, the snowpack was mostly one-finger hard. We could pick out the same weak layers that we are dealing with in other areas of the Northern Mountains, but with the faceted slab, stability tests were not concerning. These weak layers were mostly 4F to 1F-. This snowpack, although not very deep, could probably handle a decent load before older weak layers failed. With lighter loads, failures are more likely to be in the top foot of the snowpack. Near and above treeline slopes were mostly wind-affected. South-facing slopes did not look to have a lot of snow from being wind-swept and with recent warm temperatures. North-facing slopes near ridgetop had hard slabs of snow in the upper snowpack over the faceted snowpack described above.
