- Cracking, Collapsing, Poor Snowpack Structure
- Red Flags Comment
-
Lots of cracking. I initiated a rather large collapse on a 22 degree, W facing slope at approximately 8600'. We were skinning on an existing skin track and I was the second person in our party to load that slab before it collapsed. A good sign that those weak layers may not react to the first, or even second load, before they go.

Snowpack
- Instability Comment
-
Both in the collapse on the W facing slope and the pit we dug on an E facing slope, the snow from the Christmas storm was failing on the large facets that were buried.

Decent riding conditions on the E facing aspect. The new snow on SSW aspect was already starting to facet.
