Ski tour to above Windfall Lake. Dug a quick pit at the bottom of a NE facing glade. HS 60 to 70 cm. 15 cm powder on top, sitting on a 5 mm crust. There was a 5 cm loose layer below this (facets under the crust). Below this was 35 cm strong melt freeze snow, well bonded to the ground. Facet and crust layers were not reactive to quick shovel tests or skiing. Open alpine areas were wind blown, and most ridge tops have cornices. Excellent skiing in the protected glades.
