Gertrude conditions Great day at Gertrude. Lots of snow around, with 100cm snowpack depth at the saddle and 140 - 180cm at Black Lake, and skiable to approx 1000m. Surface conditions were a light dusting on top of a thick ~5cm rain crust above 1200m. The Sept 4 melt freeze crust was found approx 25cm down. Generally well consolidated below that, with some density changes and early season melt freeze layers breaking down however nothing of concern at the elevation. We don’t go above 1400m, however could see numerous small size 1 loose dry and loose wet avalanches from a day or two earlier during/following the storm. No naturals observed while we were out.
