Our AIARE 2 class traveled along the Southbowl of the Wing Ridge today up to an elevation of 7900' and descended along a NE facing slope. It was cloudy all day which kept temps cool in the mid-20s. This was notably different from the warmer and sunny temps the day before. Precipitation began moving in around 1pm and was lightly snowing by 2pm. Winds were moderate with some strong gusts. We conducted two column tests at 7640' along a NE facing aspect. We found repeating sudden planar results (SP13) at 20cm below snow surface, in and just below the Feb 1st crust layer. The results did not propagate. We observed no signs of instability along our ascent or descent and avoided travel under or over cornices where wind loading was present.
