Quick report
MORA Rangers and Nordic Patrol went to Paradise today to observe the snowpack. We dug a pit on the eastern aspect of Alta Vista at 5,600 feet of elevation. There was surface hoar forming on the top of the pack, the snow pack was right side up with 80 cm of snow from the most recent storm cycle, and the EFC was identified at 160 cm of depth. Compression testing resulted in a clean, sudden fracture on a layer of facets on the EFC after seven wrist taps. We did not observe any recent avalanche activity.
