Weather below was at time of accident on JAN 12 We did not trigger any avalanches on accident investigation, so avalanche details are from the party that triggered the slide. Layer of Concern - December Drought facets buried on JAN 4. New snow depth above JAN4 layer was 50-80cm. JAN4 Facet layer thickness varied between 15-30 cm thick in track.

Light snowfall at time of accident - Moderate snowfall in 12 hours leading to accident
Snowpack
50-80 cm of snow in past four days overloaded JAN 4 layer. Widespread collapsing on all aspects on this layer. Triggering party had skied in area several times in past week and not experienced anything beyond isolated collapses on skin track. Conditions changed signifcantly in the 24 hours before the accident with moderate snowfall and strong winds at ridge crest. All snow around the avalanche remained soft and had not been stiffened by significant wind effect.
