Observation took place at approx. 9500', 32 degree South Facing Slope, 90cm total snowpack at this location. We performed a Compression Test and an Extended Column test. We are still seeing the persistent layer around 50cm. During the Compression Test the isolated column easy on 3 taps at 50cm (CTE3@50cm) and experience a complete column failure with 12 taps at 20cm, where the depth hoar was found (CTM12@20). Our Extended Column Test yielded similar results with a column fracture with no propagation at 50cm on 3 taps (ECTN3@50cm) and a complete propagation on 19 taps at 20 cm (ECTP19@20cm). Given our findings and the added weight of new snowpack, the risk for a persistent slab avalanche and potentially a deep slab avalanche, may exist.
