Quick report
Left the car at 7:20AM with the objective of enjoying the beautiful weather and just getting some exercise. Temps were 37F when I left the car, but a moderate SW breeze kept things cool. Topped out on Red Cone at 8:45AM and the wind and high clouds kept things enjoyably chilly. I decided to take advantage of the pleasant temps and walked along the crest to around the entrance of Crystal Chute and back. Travel was easy along the crest -- primarily faceting windboard with some sun effect on solar aspects. Took a lap down the Red Cone east trees to Crystal Lake -- I'd characterize the snow as "heavy but fun on a splitboard." Walked back up to the ridge and rode down the general direction of the up-track -- the snow was even heavier but rideable in a humbling way. Dug a pit on a NE aspect at 10,250ft. Found the facets below the crust layer about 105-110cm down. CTN, though I'd grade myself a D+ for craftmanship so I probably wouldn't draw any conclusions from the result. When I pulled the column, the top ~50cm did break off in a relatively planar fashion with moderate force on what appeared to be a density break. Unsurprisingly, the weight of the entire column was incredibly heavy and spooky... No signs of instability other than the occasional small wet sluff on steeper solar micro-features.
