Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight the snowpack will consolidate at all levels. During the day small amounts of moderately bonded windslab will develop on North-East to South-East aspects above 950m. Areas most affected will be steep wind sheltered locations such as scarp slopes and gully tops. Soft fragile cornices will slowly develop above these aspects. All other aspects will be generally stable and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight the freezing level will rise to around summit level, then fall back quickly to 600m by morning and remain at this level throughout the day. There will be a period of sleet and snow to around summit levels early morning which will ease to light snow showers above 500 metres during the day. Winds will increase to strong Southerly, veering to become Westerly by dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Winds decreased to light North-Westerly throughout the day. It was a dry day with no precipitation and the freezing level stayed around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There are some small amounts of fresh, moderately bonded windslab, affecting steep sheltered locations above 1000 metres on East to South-East aspects. Small fresh cornices are also forming on these aspects. The dominant snowpack feature is a melt freeze crust on all aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
