You can easily trigger an avalanche anywhere you find more than twelve inches of snow on steep slopes in the Park Range and Flat Top Mountains. The most dangerous slopes will be directly below ridgelines, gullies, or on convex rollovers at upper elevations on easterly-facing slopes. Look for and avoid slopes where the snow surface looks lens-shaped, textured, or feels hollow or drum-like under you. You may get signs of instabilities, like shooting cracks within the new snow, the snow surface becoming dense, or cornices beginning to form. Seek wind-sheltered slopes less than about 30 degrees for safer travel options.
