Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche from the bottom of a slope or from a distance. Observers are reporting remotely triggered or natural avalanches, as well as a sensitive snowpack that collapses in open and drifted areas. Shady aspects, wind-drifted and near-treeline slopes, where weak layers are connected, pose the greatest danger. You can find safer travel on slopes without a buried weak layer, where you do not find a slab, or on slopes less than about 30 degrees.
