Points saillants

Weak, faceted snow persist near the base of the snowpack in isolated areas, and some potential may persist for snowmobiles to trigger deep, hard-slab avalanches. These dangerous slab avalanches are more likely to be triggered when multiple sleds are on a suspect slope at the same time. Isolated pockets of shallow soft slab may develop later in the day.

    In isolated areas weak, faceted snow persists near the base of the snowpack. Some potential may remain for snowmobilers, or multiple snowmobiles on the same slope, to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches up to six feet deep. In these areas, previous tracks on a slope are not an indication of stability. If a member of your party gets stuck on a suspect slope, refrain from adding additional weight to the snowpack by helping them get unstuck.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Scattered snow showers will continue overnight with two to four inches of new snow possible in the mountains by Thursday morning. The next Pacific disturbance will increase snowfall intensity during the day, and bring an additional three to six inches of accumulation by Thursday evening. Overnight lows up high will be in the upper teens before rising into the mid 20s during the day. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds will range from 15 to 25 miles per hour.In the Tetons and the Greys River area, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW Thursday morning, and will slowly increase as new wind slabs build upon good sliding surfaces in leeward terrain. While unlikely, some potential may persist for deep slab avalanches to be triggered in isolated areas in the Togwotee Pass forecast zone, and the general avalanche hazard there will remain MODERATE.
