Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs are lying on the quite favourable surface of an old snowpack.

As a consequence of snowfall above approximately 1800 m and the moderate to strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found above approximately 2500 m. As a consequence of the rain, the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase in particular on steep shady slopes below approximately 2500 m. Medium-sized avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack cooled hardly at all during the overcast night and will already be soft in the early morning. Above approximately 1900 m snow has fallen over a wide area. As a consequence of wind, easily released wind slabs formed in high Alpine regions. Steep shady slopes above approximately 2500 m: Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the old snowpack. Below approximately 1800 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
