Points saillants

The upper elevations have received a foot or more of light density snow in the past 48 hours with moderate west winds. Backcountry travelers could trigger soft slabs to two feet in depth and rapidly building sloughs on steep, lee slopes. The slabs rest on slick crusts and will continue to grow in depth and sensitivity through the day. At mid elevations be alert to locally deeper accumulations and the danger of sloughs running into terrain traps. At low elevations the snowpack is mostly stable.

Avalanche Discussion

After heavy snowfall continues Wednesday night, some lingering light snow is expected to fall on Thursday. Winds are to increase slightly and become Northerly overnight, then are to lessen to 10-15 mph averages during the day. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Considerable. Soft slabs with depths over two feet are expected to be easily triggered in steep avalanche terrain.
