Avalanche Activity

Some snow has fallen in some regions. The strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. In addition the wind slabs at the base of rock walls are prone to triggering in many places. In some places the avalanches can be released easily. Avalanches can be released, even by a single winter sport participant. As a consequence of a strong wind, further wind slabs will form.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The wind slabs are lying on unfavourable layers in particular on steep shady slopes. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted.

Tendency

As a consequence of the wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form during the next few days.
