Points saillants
At the mid and upper elevations dangerous dense slabs two to four in depth exist in steep wind loaded starting zones. These slabs lie upon weak faceted old snow and await human triggers. Backcountry conditions exist at the local ski resorts. On Sunday afternoon a backcountry skier was completely buried and rescued in backcountry conditions in the Chief Joseph Bowl area of Grand Targhee Resort. At the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort four large recent natural avalanches have occured. The Wyoming Department of Transportation was able to trigger the Twin Slides avalanche path on Mt. Glory Sunday night. At the lower elevations the snowpack is shallow and avalanches are unlikely.
