Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche that breaks in the new snow or on weak snow buried at the bottom of the snowpack. The most dangerous slopes are wind-loaded terrain features such as the lee side of a ridgeline where even a small avalanche can step down into the weak snow near the ground, triggering a much larger and more dangerous avalanche. Avoid traveling on steep wind-loaded slopes on the lee sides of a ridgeline or below a cornice and use caution on any steep slopes where you find more than about a foot of new snow.

As snow continues to accumulate throughout the day Tuesday into Wednesday, expect the avalanche danger to increase and expect snow to drift into unusual places as the winds shift to an easterly direction Tuesday evening.
